Never Alone

I don’t know about you, but I hate being alone. Not that I don’t like having time to myself, but ‘feeling lonely’ is about one of the worst feelings I bear, and for someone who lives in chronic pain, that says something. It’s a feeling that can be overwhelming, isolating, and painful, but God promises to be with us even in our darkest moments. In the Psalms, David wrote:
The Lord hears his people when they call to him for help. He rescues them from all their troubles. The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; he rescues those whose spirits are crushed. Psalms 34:17-18 NLT
When we are lonely, we might feel as though no one understands us, but God is there with us in the midst of it. We may feel abandoned or forgotten, but God never abandons us. This verse reminds us that God is near to those who are brokenhearted, near to those who feel lost. Loneliness doesn’t push God away; rather, it draws Him nearer to us. He doesn’t abandon us in our struggles; He is right there with us, offering comfort and rescue.
The enemy wants me alone so I am an easier target, he wants me to feel like I have no help, no support, no one who will have my back so my hope will crumble around me. I fight against feelings of isolation and loneliness because they are the lies of the enemy. Maybe you’re feeling lonely today, not just because of being physically alone, but because you feel spiritually distant from God. If that's the case, remember what Jesus said:
I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, who will never leave you. He is the Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth. The world cannot receive him, because it isn’t looking for him and doesn’t recognize him. But you know him, because he lives with you now and later will be in you. No, I will not abandon you as orphans—I will come to you. Soon the world will no longer see me, but you will see me. Since I live, you also will live. John 14:16-19 NLT
This is a powerful promise from God. He will never leave us, even in the moments when we feel like we’re all by ourselves. Loneliness might try to convince us that we are abandoned, but God's Word declares otherwise. He is always with us, and His presence is a constant source of comfort and strength.
God isn’t just telling us to “get over” our loneliness or fear. He’s reminding us that He is with us. He will strengthen us, help us, and uphold us with His mighty hand. Loneliness might make us feel small, but God’s strength is greater than any feeling of isolation we may have.
Jesus promised that He would never leave us as orphans. He doesn’t just abandon us to face the world alone, His presence through the Holy Spirit is a constant reminder of this. Even when we feel distant from others, we are never distant from God.
Loneliness is not permanent. God is close to the brokenhearted, and His promise to never leave us is a sure foundation. He understands our loneliness, and He is with us through every trial. If you’re feeling alone today, remember that God’s presence is with you, His love surrounds you, and He will never abandon you. Reach out to Him in your loneliness, and you will find comfort, strength, and peace.
Let’s pray together. Lord, we thank You for Your promise to always be with us. When loneliness tries to overwhelm us, help us to remember that You are not only near to us, but within us. Comfort us, strengthen us, and remind us that we are never alone. In Jesus' name, Amen.
